Our grateful thanks to MCDSA member Dan Scott who personally covered the cost of the artwork used for the MCDSA Coffee Mugs and Steins which sold like hotcakes at our 2022 Reunion. If you would like to buy an MCDSA Coffee Mug or Stein, please head over to “Fraternal Items” (listed in the drop-down menu under the “Merchandise” tab at the top of your screen). Once you are on the “Fraternal Items” page, please scroll down to the bottom of that page, and learn how you can order one (or some)!
Celebrating 246 years -- Happy Independence Day!
While a hard copy of the BADGE (newsletter) was recently mailed out to our members, it is also available online by going to the menu at the top of this website, and clicking on “the BADGE Newsletter.” The page you are taken to has a link which you will click on to open a new window containing a scanned copy of our 9-page, most-recent newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading over the newsletter and that members will take advantage of the opportunity to contribute to our future newsletters — it is yet another way to stay in touch and to further build our bonds with one another.
“…some gave all…”
On this Memorial Day, let us remember and honor those who gave their lives in the Service of our Country.
GySgt. Sherman E. “Gene” Pitts (Distinguished Pistol Shot – 1979) passed away on Monday, 23 May 2022. His funeral will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery on 10 June 2022. A Celebration of Life to honor Gene will be held immediately following the funeral at the Sahib Shriners Event Center in Sarasota.
“…it is with heavy heart that I inform you that Gunner Connor passed away on 11 April 2022.”
(quote from MCDSA President Danny Burke)
“Greg Connor earned his Distinguished Marksman Badge in 1962, and was a versatile and consistent shooter who served four decades in the Marine Corps. Successful as both a rifle and pistol coach, Connor is pictured here after winning the 1974 Wimbledon Cup title at the National Matches. In 1986, shortly after retiring from the Corps, Connor won another prestigious 1,000-yard match at Camp Perry, the iron-sight Leech Cup.“
The above content and photo are taken from page 109 of “The History of Marine Corps Competitive Marksmanship, Volume II (1960-2010).”
